What Iowa's Newest State Senators Want You To Know...And How You Can Take Action Now

This session took place on the eve of the second legislative “funnel” deadline in the Iowa legislature. Our two newest State Senate candidates Catelin Drey and Renee Hardman shared their legislative priorities, what’s at stake, and action steps we can take, as well as part of their personal journey to election. Women’s Caucus Chair Jo Vetter hosted.

CATELIN DREY took office in September 2025 after winning a special election that flipped the seat and broke the Iowa Senate’s supermajority. She represents District 1 (Woodbury County, Sioux City). Drey has a bachelor’s degree in photography and Spanish. Her professional experience includes working in marketing, customer service, and financial services. She founded a photography business and the group “Moms for Iowa.”

RENEE HARDMAN took office in January 2026 after winning a special election by double digits and continuing to block the supermajority. Hardman is the first Black woman to serve in the Iowa Senate, and she represents District 16 (Dallas County, West Des Moines). She earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology and an MBA from Drake University. Her career experience includes working in business, founding Hardman Consulting, and serving on the West Des Moines City Council.
