Inauguration Day Activities

Nevertheless, she persisted” is a three-word sentence that has become a rallying cry for feminists. The sentence was first used by then Republican Majority Leader Mitch McConnell when he recounted an incident involving Senator Warren.

Those same words might have been expressed by the 10 women who gathered in Perry, Iowa on January 20 during the inauguration ceremonies of the second term of Donald Trump to the 47 Presidency. Not to be forgotten, this was also a day of celebration for Martin Luther King Jr.

The women dressed symbolically as one of their heroines, the late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Attired in black from their shoes to their blouses, sweaters, or shirts, they lunched together in a solidarity against anger and bullying. They shut off their “screens” and came together to recognize and celebrate the many good things occurring in their individual lives. Their aim and direction for the next four years are to bring positivity to Facebook and other social media platforms as well as to the people they know.

While opposed to Trump and the insurrectionists bringing fear, chaos, and unrest, these women want to prevail with CALMNESS and bring conversation and dialogue regarding the loss of freedom and liberties within our Country.

The women pictured have worked together for Perry area community projects, and the organizer, Cheri Scheib indicates they have Democratic values but may some are registered as Independents. The bottom line for these women is to disagree without being disagreeable.

Much like the message given by Episcopal Bishop, Reverend Mariann Budde they are rooting for those who are currently fearful; immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, and any others who may be opposing the Trump edicts. One individual whose Mother receives Medicaid services, wonders if her Mom will need to come and live with her if she doesn’t receive the Medicaid supplement.

They concluded their day with a march or maybe better described as a walk on the Main Street of the community to a wellness business in Perry that promotes the care for your health and inner peace that they will need for the next four years. They are determined to nurture each other through texting, and meeting once a month to support their positivity during this time.

They have not identified a name for their group but recognize there will be group decisions that will positive activities during the next four years.

Are there similar groups forming across Iowa and in the women’s caucus? Tell us so we may share your stories.
