Strategy session: Let's Help iowa women flip some seats!
There’s a good chance we’ll have Rob Sand as Governor in 2027. To make his agenda possible, he’ll need Democrats in the Iowa Legislature. That’s where we as Iowa Women come in. This session focused on strategizing what we can we do to flip seats, and keep Democrats in office.
The first part of the session featured Leila for Iowa (Leila Staton). Leila is a community organizer, child sexual assault survivor and women’s health care advocate, and Democratic nominee set to flip Iowa House District 54. She works for a nonprofit that helps people escape domestic violence, and now spends all of her “spare” time knocking doors to communicate with voters. Leila also co-founded the organization “Insufferable Welches of Iowa” in 2024 with her mother, Heather, who is her campaign manager and also shared during this session.
During the second half we learned what’s happening with the Iowa Forward Democratic coordinated campaign with organizers Keziah Ambundo and Gwynedd Vetter-Drusch, who are both organizing in Region 1 (North Central Iowa including Waterloo).
Women’s Caucus Chair Jo Vetter was host.
