Campaign 101 - October 25, 2025

October 25, 2025 was the 5th DAY OF LEARNING/ CAMPAIGN 101 sponsored by the Iowa Women’s Constituency Caucus. This was held in Storm Lake, Iowa. The community host and helpful organizer was SALUD of Storm Lake.  The three congressional candidates for District 4 gave their introductory presentations, along with Rachel Burns, who is campaigning for a House District 7 Special election to be held December 9.

Niki Conrad, Vice Chair of 4th District presented an overview of the responsibilities and duties of the 8 elected representatives to the State Central Committee.

The group attentively listened to former Woodbury County Auditor Pat Gill’s remarks about nomination papers.
Author Bruce Lear provided a very informative presentation about crafting a stump speech, describing how to use personal stories to authenticate why you are seeking office. Participants gave the feedback that this type of presentation should be included in every training.

The three 4th district candidates gave their introductory stump speeches. Those seeking the Congressional seat included Stephanie Steiner, Dave Dawson, and representing Ashley Wolf Tornabane was Pegg Haven. Pictured here is Rachel Burns, who is seeking the 7th District Iowa House seat in a special election to be held December 9th. The participants completed 50 post cards to urge voters to get to the polls.
John Clough, CPA and current treasurer for the 4th district, shared pertinent information about serving as treasurer for candidates and reporting to the Ethics Board. The evaluations written about this presentation were very high.
Panel: "Building Your Community Network." Left to right, Maria Ramos, Nancy Dysktra, Theresa Weaver, and moderator Linda Santi. An evaluator stated, "This was my favorite, because it is so important to hear different perspectives to the same questions.”
Senate Minority leader Weiner traveled to Storm Lake to give an uplifting and motivational presentation for potential candidates. She received the a high evaluation ranking, including a comment: "This made me think I can run for office myself.”
