Why I Am A Democrat
By Mary Weaver
A new feature for the website from the Iowa Democratic Women Political Constituency Caucus Members, “WHY I AM A DEMOCRAT”.
The first one, Mary Weaver……
I am a registered Democrat. My values are equality and fairness for all. Those values are embodied by the Party. I pride myself on not voting a straight Democratic ticket as in the past, I have voted for Republicans including Robert Ray, and Charles Grassley. I try to become informed about the individual and how I believe he or she will represent my views and know when to compromise for the best governing.
I was raised to be a community-minded public servant. I have embodied those notions in my community as a church and school leader. Coaching Little League, serving on the school board, and serving as a leader in our local Democrat party.
I am a proud Democrat.
The second one, Marilyn Warling…..
Why I am a Democrat
My years as a public health nurse brought me into the Democratic party. I saw the Democrats supporting policies that cared for and supported those who did not have the resources, ie, food, shelter and health care, to live a meaningful life.
I believe in paying taxes to support our infrastructure, social services, Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security along with the armed services to protect our country and the diplomats to interact with countries around the world. I think the Democratic party aligns with my beliefs and therefore I am very proud to call myself a Democrat.

The third one, Anne Kinzel…..
I am a Democrat because the alternative makes no sense to me. I believe in democracy over autocracy. I believe as a woman I am an equal citizen of each and every state I as a US citizen,I would choose to live in.
